Red-Green-Blue; 3 band image.
VisNIR
Visual + NIR image
NIR
Near Infrared
Multispectral
A collection of multiple image layers of the same scene, where each layer is acquired at a specific wavelength band
Hyperspectral
A technique that collects and processes information across the electromagnetic spectrum to obtain the spectrum for each pixel in an image
SAR
A type of active data collection where an instrument sends out a pulse of energy and then records the amount of that energy reflected back after it interacts with Earth
RF
Radio Frequency Data
Image Band
Raster of each individual spectrum being captured
Mask
Image masking is a technique used in photo editing to separate or isolate specific areas of an image from the rest. (It may be for objects like cloud, bad pixels etc)
AOI
Area of Interest of the user.
TIFF
A TIFF, which stands for Tag Image File Format, is a computer file used to store raster graphics and image information.
JSON
JSON is an open standard file format and data interchange format that uses human-readable text to store and transmit data objects consisting of name–value pairs and arrays.
GeoJSON
A format for encoding geographical data structures using JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)
Image
A combination/raster of all the bands of interest aligned into one raster.
SmartDiscard
Discard of data based on the image quality by the STORM pipeline.
Insight Compression
Compression techniques to further compress the outputs from models.
GSD
The distance between two consecutive pixel centers measured on the ground.
CPU
The primary component of a edge computer that acts as its “control center."
GPU
A specialized processor originally designed to accelerate computing of Deep Learning models or even simple computing.
CUDA
A parallel computing platform and programming model developed by NVIDIA for general computing on graphical processing units (GPUs)
TOPS
TOPS stands for Trillions of Operations Per Second and measures the speed of AI hardware such as NPU, GPU, and accelerator for AI inference tasks.
Uplink
The communication link from ground to satellite.
Downlink
The communication link from satellite to ground.
FoV
The open, observable area a captured by a camera
Cal/Val
A site where calibration means establishing the basic model for translating a measured signal (e.g. in counts) into the required observation (e.g. radiance)
SSO
A specialized type of polar orbit, designed to ensure a satellite passes over the same part of the Earth at approximately the same local solar time.
Revisit Time
The time interval between two successive a satellite or a system's observations on the AoI.
Swath
Ground area covered by the satellite sensor.
Geo-referencing
The internal coordinate system of a digital map or satellite photo can be related to a ground system of geographic coordinates
